“A man should never neglect his family for business.”
Walt Disney

In the spirit of what the great Walt Disney is quoted as saying above; I am officially on vacation. Our bags are packed and my camera is in hand. My family has been so supportive and patient this last year as my business has flourished and now it is their time. We are off to Walt Disney World for a fantastic family vacation. I cannot tell you how excited I have been about this trip and the memories we are going to make as a family. We started taking an annual family trip with my parents 16 years ago after my sweet brother passed away. We decided after attending the service and feeling no relief from our grief that it would be best if we went away as a family together . We have been honoring that tradition every year since and it means so much to all of us. They are so much more than your average family vacation. We value these trips because they honor my brother by giving us a special opportunity to build happy memories as a family.
So Kristanne V Photography is officially closed through the month of December. We will be accepting new clients starting Jan 10th; currently all January session slots are filled and we are currently booking for February 2010.
Happy Holidays!
Kristin

These boots were made for fun | Colorado Senior Photographer
Posted on November 23, 2009
“One must always have one’s boots on and be ready to go.”
Michel de Montaigne
So this weekend I had one of my favorite senior sessions to date. It was not my favorite because of the images (but I do love them) but instead because we had a lot of fun. One of the things I love most about photographing seniors is their zest for life and their willingness to try anything for the shot. This gorgeous girl was no exception! We had a great time and as you can see it comes across in her beautiful images. Also, I am in “LOVE” with her red cowboy boots. Of course who could not love red cowboy boots, right? Well I think what made them all the more special was that there was sentiment behind her wearing them. When she was a young girl she had a pair of red boots and she wore them “EVERYWHERE”; she and her boots were inseparable. There is something about the fact that she wore something special from her youth while taking photographs which are a celebration of her coming of age. I think it says a lot about her and who she is.
Thank you “C” for being such a joy to work with; I have no doubt you are going to take this world by storm!

An admitted Zoo addict | Denver family photographer
Posted on November 19, 2009
” Does the quizzical expression of the monkey at the zoo comes from his wondering whether he is his brother’s keeper, or his keeper’s brother.”
Ok, so I am a Zoo addict. I love going there. In fact, even if I did not have kids I would wander around the Zoo. Well now that I am sitting here writing this I think it isn’t actually the Zoo I love; it is so many things. It is the opportunity to see animals that I would never get to see and learning about them. It is the sound of squealing children when they see a giraffe’s tongue for the first time. It is the smell of kettle corn, the sound of the train and the blue tongues of children who convinced their parents that cotton candy is a “must have”. Mainly I love that it is a place where families gather and spend time together; real quality time. Several generations gather in this one place and it is filled with love and wonder. Who wouldn’t love that? I love the Zoo so much that I try and go there at least once a month. I could probably fill a whole hard drive with all the images I have taken over the years at the Zoo. Well out of the goodness of my heart I will only bore you with a couple of shots from my last visit. It was a great day. I had both of my boys with me, the weather was gorgeous and Roman tried cotton candy for the first time. Not a hit by the way; despite is huge sweet tooth(something he got from his father) he didn’t like it that much (images below). I am sure our dentist will be thrilled by this epiphany.

“Don’t wait to make your son a great man – make him a great boy”
Unknown
Like many mothers before me I am finding it hard to believe that the sweet little boy they place in my arms almost 18 years ago is now a young man. My head is spinning with how quickly this time has passed. Soon my sweet boy will be graduating high school and then he will be off to make his way into the world. I would be lying if I did not admit that I am dreading the day he leaves the nest. Not because I do not trust that I have raised him well or that he will not be able to find his way; instead because I so enjoy having him part of my daily life. He has grown up to be an amazing young man and I am beyond proud that he is my son.
I have been so busy lately with clients that I wasn’t able to get around to taking his senior pictures until last week. Of course, this wasn’t a big deal for him because he would have preferred not having senior pictures taken at all. Well being the kind and generous son that I raised he humored me and allowed me to take his senior pictures. Anyone who knows my boy understands what a big deal this is because he absolutely hates having his picture taken. I am glad his love for me out shined his desire to hide from the lens. I have to say when all was said and done we had a really great time together while getting his shots. I would do it all over again a thousand times over. Thanks Kiddo!

Falling in love with Fall | Denver Family Photographer
Posted on November 3, 2009
“I still get wildly enthusiastic about little things… I play with leaves. I skip down the street and run against the wind.”
Leo F. Buscaglia
I love the Fall; it is my favorite season. It is filled with a cozy warmth that is undeniable. It is a combination of things that makes my heart swell. It is the smell of winter coming our way, the laughter of children as they discover the crunch of fallen leaves and warm spiced Apple cider. What is there not to love?
This year Roman discovered how much fun fallen leaves can be. It was so much fun watching him play, experiment and have an all around great time. I captured so many fun images of him playing and I know I am going to cherish each and every one of them as he grows and the wonder of those leaves no longer captures his attention. It is these little moments that makes my heart swell.
